QUESTION FOUR..
An updated transcript:
For the process of completing the research, planning and evaluation stages media technologies was significant and aided us as we were able to use different gadgets and sources that influenced us and stored our media content. We used various products such as a computer/laptop which became essential for the planning of the products and we used the computers to research into our products for example using the internet we were able to view different magazines and identify key conventions which enabled us to create the final products. Lastly the computer helped to store our evaluations as we were able to transfer the work across so that the evaluations could be completed in our own time. Another technology element that helped was the internet. Without the internet we were not able to complete a big percentage of the work as the internet would allow us to find different data which later inspired us like the range of DVD covers that were uploaded online as this influenced us when creating the products as we were able to browse at existing products and develop key conventions. To upload most of our content we used a website called ‘Wordpress’ this enabled us to keep our work safe and it was accessible at home and on our mobile devices so that we could update existing blog entries on the go. Elements that inspired us were found online on websites like google and Youtube. Youtube allowed us to come up with some ideas such as the idea we got for our main product as there were existing videos of previous programmes that were set in a school which became a main example we would use when editing the product as we wanted to achieve the same professional product. Google was the main site extended our existing knowledge of the products we wanted to make and different theories like narrative theories for example which we evaluated in the planning stage.
We uploaded our work on various different websites, this way our content was not consistent as we didn't like the idea of using one website we wanted our content to be diverse and exciting. We used websites like..
- Slideshare
- Prezi
- Wordpress
When editing and creating the products we had the option of using photoshop or powerpoint which both achieve the same quality. In previous years we used photoshop to create products but this became a problem as this application was not accessible at home meaning the development of the products could only be completed at school. Because of this we decided to use Microsoft Powerpoint as this was transferrable, I could send the files across so that if we wanted to make the most of our time we could complete tasks at home. Once a draft was completed we would then upload the content to wordpress which stored all of our work. The decision to use Powerpoint benefited us all, as we all have years of experience with the programme and we noticed we had much more time remaining to plan for the main task and other tasks that needed completing.
We used various technology gadgets such us our mobile devices, video cameras and laptops/computers.
Our phones were a tremendous help as we were able to take pictures for some tasks (like the photos used in the ancillary tasks as our mobile devices were of high quality and transportable) as well as using the Wordpress mobile application to upload any entries or access various data that was uploaded online. Our phones were also able to transfer data using our email accounts, for example after the photoshoot for the DVD cover we were able to receive the images on the computer within minutes after downloading the images from our email accounts. This meant the data was shared between the two of us incase we needed it at some point. We also used our email accounts to contact each other for example on the day of filming in the Zone, we needed the table plan to follow the route so that the footage was smooth, we accessed the file by using our email accounts and opening the file which was then used.
The final gadget we used was a video camera (Panasonic HC-V250) which was very important when completing work and filming for the main task. The video camera used actually belonged to Chloe Harrison, this benefited us as the footage recorded could be transported to a laptop on the same day and edited as soon as possible instead of having to share a video camera between the class. We used the video camera for various tasks such as the focus group, this made the work more visual and exciting to watch as well as becoming much quicker as typing an entry took a lot of our time. We used iMovie to edit videos which again was accessible as Chloe Harrison had the application on her home computer which again aided us as tasks were completed within a day and we were always ready to move on the following day. We have a lot of experience with this programme after using it previous years, this really helped as we didn't have to research in different editing techniques because we were already aware of them.
Along the way we did face an obstacle. When it came to filming our main product we did not have a panning track which (originally) we thought was essential in order to achieve a smooth finish. But after discussing the problem with our tutor we overcame this obstacle by using a chair that Clara Rodrigues would sit on whilst Chloe Harrison pushed her along gently as Clara would film the students at lunch time in their natural behaviour.
Overall media technologies was essential in the process of making the products as we were able to access the internet to develop our ideas and we could use gadgets such as a camera phone to capture different stages of the process. I feel if the gadgets/sources above were avoided we would of have less time to complete different tasks making the quality of our work fairly poor.
